Senior Associate
Matt has been a solicitor since 2004 and, before moving to Toowoomba, was a senior
associate in a national law firm where he mainly worked for:
- mining, gas and petroleum companies;
- listed property trusts (managing 4 inner city buildings); and
- Commonwealth government agencies.
Some of the more interesting matters he’s worked on include: purchase of a portfolio
of cotton farms; foreign investment review board (FIRB) advice on a multibillion
dollar infrastructure project; transferring a Commonwealth government owned island;
selling an inner city Brisbane office tower; airport and navigational aid leasing
and acting for receivers (appointed by a mortgagee) in relation to the sale of land
and businesses.
Matt is grateful for the experience of working in a large firm but prefers working
in the region with people who are personally invested in the success of their business
and making a difference in their community.
Before becoming a lawyer, Matt spent about 5 years working for the Commonwealth
Department of Family and Community Services and the Queensland Department of Housing.
Most of the time, Matt was working on community development programs aimed at reducing
crime and increasing social cohesion in disadvantaged communities.
Matt was also a professional football player and member of the National Soccer League
winning side – Brisbane Strikers in 1997. He represented Australia as a young Socceroo
and now coaches at Toowoomba Grammar.
